EMPLOYEES CONCERNS (PART TWO)

Kindly remember that this survey was taken in 2007.

ENTERTAINMENT/SPORTS AND CULTURE

 This was dependent on the efforts of a few or through a social and welfare committee where one was available.

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES/PERSONAL SAFETY

 The apparent absence of or delays in the establishment of an Occupational Safety and Health Committee appeared to employees as evidence of a lack of will by Management to implement the conditions of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

 Accidents and environmental issues continued to be a sore point among unionized workers.

FOOD AND CLOTHING

 There was a claim by the Union Representatives that approximately twenty thousand workers in the Public Service were categorized between Grades 6 and 9,and the difficulties to provide these necessities were compounded by the high cost of living and the linking of the U.S. dollar to some purchases.

GOD, CHURCH, FELLOWSHIP

 Racial undertones and bias were thought to have affected every strata of the society including the Church and the workplace.

 Recent attacks by several communities on some churches were seen as evidence that Religion was not viewed as having an equal place under the Constitution of Trinidad and Tobago.

 These attacks were being considered to be in retaliation for public verbal attacks on well-established religions in a mixed racial and religious society.
